ABC has canceled “The Chew” after 7 seasons. Good Morning America will expand to a third hour. The network made the announcement on May 23, that the daytime lifestyle series will end after its current season. The popular cooking show debuted it’s first episode on Sep 26, 2011—with hosts; Daphne Oz, Mario Batali, Carla Hall, Clinton Kelly and Michael Symon. Daphne Oz who was apart of the show from 2011 to 2017, left The Chew after six seasons.
The Chew, a staple in the homes of many for the past seven years, bridged food and fun conversation in an entertaining atmosphere, Ben Sherwood—president of Disney-ABC Television Group said in a statement. “We applaud and thank Gordon Elliott, Aimee Householder, Michael Symon, Carla Hall, Clinton Kelly and the entire cast and crew for their great work and amazing run. And we wish them the very best.”
Although the news of the cancellation may be disheartening, The Chew fans will still be able to enjoy their favorite food show through September 2018, to which Good Morning America will debut its third hour M-F at 1 pm ET.
The GMA third hour expansion is no surprise to the ABC network, fans and hosts as Good Morning America has for several years cemented it’s place in television as America’s No. 1 morning show beating out the once top rated , The Today Show.
The Chew has had many successes throughout it’s seven seasons, notably winning a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Talk Show Informative (2016). However, in recent months the show saw the departure co-host Mario Batali who has been reportedly accused of allegations of sexual misconduct although ABC has said that it was “unaware of any type of inappropriate behavior” during Batali’s time on The Chew, the network ultimately severed ties with the chef, adding that “we are committed to a safe work environment and his past behavior violates our standards of conduct.”
