Chicks with Class Holiday Brunch Gala was a delightful event complete with a room full of bright kid entrepreneurs and much more. Featured speakers included Event host and Miss Black America Coed Roneshia Ray, Hip hop princess Young Lyric, actress, model, and dancer Lyric Hurd and actress and Disney Channel’s Jessie & Bunk’d Skai Jackson. Speaking of Skai we had the pleasure of sitting down with the star to talk about her involvement with the empowerment company. She’s a gracious young lady who has acted in the industry since the age of one. Petite in stature but big on personality Skai politely greeted all who were in attendance with a wave and a soft voice hello. She says what brought her to Houston for Chicks with Class is that it’s great organization. It was also her first meet and greet in the city and she expressed thanks for the people who were excited she was in town. And for some of us who can’t get past the weekend with plans for the upcoming week, Skai’s got her goals for the next five years mapped out in one interview setting. I definitely want to take it as far as I can go, she says. There’s directing, fashion, producing and a network television show in the works for this focused 14-year-old.
For more kid inspiration meet the dynamic duo of Kamryn Johnson and Saniya-Symone Scott (Kam & Niya). They’re authors, entertainers, empowerment speakers and kid business leaders with a recent cookbook titled Cooking in Style—Story Cookbook. Both of these young ladies are under the age of 12 and have appeared on the daytime talk show The Real. You can also find Kam on the big screen Jan. 6 where she plays the daughter of Octavia Spencer in the movie Hidden Figures also starring Taraji P. Henson and Janelle Monáe. Niya is a 4th-year violinist having performed at multiple venues. She’s also very much involved in giving back to her community and volunteers on a regular basis through a non-profit founded by her mother.
Event highlights featured fashion stylist, philanthropist and entrepreneur Ashley Dunn as a recipient of the “GIRLBOSS” Award and an appearance from “Teenpreneur Spotlight” Madison Star & Mallory Iyana Founders of Angels and Tomboys. The duo is the winner of ABC’s Shark Tank Pitch Competitions.

With so much talent, dreams and goals under one roof it made perfect sense for a few of us in media to bring along our youth. What better motivation than to see preteens and teens excited about what they do. Chicks with Class is a great organization which promotes an atmosphere of growth. We encourage parents to visit events like this and similar ones in the future with their children. For us it was time well spent. We’re here for the success of each of these individuals!
