Sylvester Turner is the new Mayor-elect for the City of Houston. The tight race against Conservative businessman Bill King ended in victory. And he celebrated in faith at the Church Without Walls in Northwest Houston Sunday. Turner expressed his excitement to audience members.
“Hey man, I feel excited,” said the veteran lawmaker. “It feels good, I’m not gonna lie to you.”
Turner will lead the fourth largest city in January 2016 after Mayor Annise Parker completes her term. He vows to unite Democrats, Republicans, business leaders, unions, community groups and thousands of Houstonians to improve city streets, make neighborhoods safer, support public schools and give working people a better chance to get ahead. “We’re All in This Together,” Turner echos his vision for a better Houston. One where President Obama endorsed him for his commitment in keeping the “promise of his city and country alive for the next generation.”
In his third bid to become Houston’s mayor, Turner’s win exemplifies a spirit rooted in the message to never give up. A young man who shared one room with eight brothers and sisters to attending Harvard Law School. He never gave up on himself and nor will he do so for the city where he was born and raised.
Congratulations Mayor Sylvester Turner!
