Former Destiny’s Child member, Michelle Williams recently co-hosted on The Talk where she once again spoke about her bout with depression. A pivotal time was at the height of her career as one-third of the famous girl group which included friends and bandmates Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland. Sharing with the other hosts and audience— she recalls when she told then manager Matthew Knowles of her depression, bless his heart, he was like, “You all just signed a multi-million-dollar deal. You’re about to go on tour. What do you have to be depressed about?” she says. Although she did not receive the support or understanding she would have liked, Michelle said she brushed off what she was feeling as “I’m just tired.” She didn’t blame Knowles for his lack of understanding being that his focus was on the success of the group at the time. Michelle says her depression reached a point where things were dark and she became suicidal.
This just goes to show you that you never know what someone is dealing with. Michelle’s low point was at a career high though she’s dealt with depression since the age of thirteen. For so many others, it can happen at any time. We’re thankful Michelle was transparent revealing her experiences with depression and to now see her happy as she’s moved past some of those dark moments. The “Say Yes” singer thanked the talk show for allowing her to share her truth.
