I did not hear Raven-Symone say she was a lesbian! That is, in those exact words.
August 4, 2013
The childhood actress, who at the age of three, played TV character Olivia on the 1980’s sitcom, “The Cosby Show,” was reported as finally confirming that she was a lesbian in light of her tweet she sent out earlier Friday afternoon.
“I can finally get married! Yay government! So proud of you.”
Raven has stood firm in protecting her private life over the years amid the media always speculating her sexual orientation. The actress has responded to such inquiries in the past by saying, “My sexual orientation is mine and the person I’m dating to know. I’m not one for public display of my life.” Raven tweeted this from her page back in May 2012.
So headlines read that Raven is a lesbian even without those exact words spilling from her own mouth. I get that hints can be taken as an assumption of what one finally wants to say but I feel our assumptions are a little premature in posting article titles even if it is thought that Raven’s preference is that of the same sex.
There have been many celebrities who said they would not marry until gay marriages were legalized. I am not one to guess whether or not Raven meant the tweet for herself or in support of family or friends. Being a fan of hearing information from the source, it is up to Raven to provide the public with any more information regarding her personal life so until then we can’t title something that is not known…whatever one may already think.
Raven’s representatives responded to media inquiries saying, “Raven is not getting married. She was just supporting the fact that she heard on NPR that more states legalized gay marriage.”
