The Answer Movement with Pastor Terrance Johnson and Lady J of Higher Dimension Church hosted celebrity couple Isreal Houghton and Adrienne Bailon, singer Jordin Sparks, Rob Riley, Dondre Whitfield, Comedian and Radio Personality Nephew Tommy
Pastor Terrance and First Lady Torsha Johnson have for the last few years provided a spiritually led community-based event “The Answer Movement” which bring people together who seek answers to life’s most pressing questions about marriage, family and finances. The conference took place Saturday, Feb. 4 at Higher Dimension Church in Houston, TX. The theme: “The Center” which is Christ. Attendees were in for a treat when a host of guests shared their experiences on stage.
Newlyweds Isreal Houghton and Adrienne Bailon brought a fresh approach to marriage as they spoke of enjoying each other’s company through honesty and transparency. “I would rather the honesty hurt now (temporarily) than years from now when it’s not fixable,” said ‘The Real’ co-host and her Christian singer and songwriter husband.
Actor Dondre Whitfield who can be seen on the OWN television series Queen Sugar stressed the importance of the man leading his household under God for everything to fall into place. He shared the story of when he was baptised for the second time and how it felt different from the first, “I was more serious when it happened again,” mentioning that his wife—fellow actress Salli Richardson-Whitfield eventually followed his lead as she and their children embraced a more spiritual life and the discipline of becoming vegetarians. In our sense of nostalgia, we remembered him from “The Cosby Show” days as Robert but Whitfield, the Christian, husband, father and celebrity provided the audience with lots of sound relationship nuggets and plenty of laughter.

“When we’re not laughing we’re crying!” Nephew Tommy, co-host of the “Steve Harvey Morning Show” joked as he reminded couples who sought answers for keeping the funny in their marriage to be themselves which he and wife Jacqueline Miles follow.
The Answer Movement also addressed more serious issues affecting our youth like AIDS and Human Sex Trafficking. Kecia J is like any other woman on the move but hers is a story of teaching teens and young adults about the safety of their health through her HIV positive status. Having participated on the “Ke Ke Palmer Takeover” and as the face of Walgreens HIV campaign Kecia’s first platform was social media. She understands where most are nowadays especially the youth because everything is visual and anything can go viral in seconds. She would like to use those with mass followings to get the word out. “We have people as young as 12-years of age contracting the disease so it’s very important to incorporate social media.”
Jordin Sparks megawatt smile can light up any room but her presence at this year’s conference was not to promote any of her projects but in support of the many young people affected by sex trafficking. The singer/songwriter and actress best known for winning the sixth season of American Idol joined Real Women Real Beauty (RWRB) for the special Sex Trafficking panel featuring other inspirational speakers.
Along with receiving relationship answers guests enjoyed hearing speakers Dorinda Walker, Senior Vice-President of Prudential, Dr. DeForest B. Soaries Founder of DFree, Dr. Samuel Rodriguez of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, Pastor John Gray of Lakewood and others who discussed topics about leadership, finances, and how to better the community. There was also an appearance by Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner.
What made this conference a stand-out success was the obvious love and commitment from its leaders. We all know the saying, “It starts in the home!” In this case, Higher Dimension Church is home to many worshippers under the teachings of two candid individuals who make it their mission to see every area of the house God trusted them to keep tidy— to serve the people. From their early accounts of dating to the struggles of when they first married, this duo’s comedic presence gave way for a very heartfelt, hilarious and on-time discussion to navigate singles into healthy relationships and assist couples in nurturing marriages that last.
